Mr. M Riedstra

I have the privilege of teaching Grade 8 Religious Studies, Grades 7–9 Social Studies, Grades 7 and 8 English, and Grade 7 Phys. Ed. This is my third year of teaching and my first year at CCS. Previously, I taught at a school in Winnipeg.
Although my last name might suggest a Frisian descent, I was actually born in Groningen, the Netherlands. My family and I moved to Canada in 2006, when my parents started a small bakery in Carman, Manitoba. I lived in Manitoba from that point until this past summer. As a student, I couldn’t wait to leave school behind and get out of the classroom. It’s sometimes humorous to see how the Lord works, because now I have the privilege of spending the majority of my life in the classroom!
In my free time, I love spending time in the mountains hiking, drinking a good coffee, lifting weights, and hanging out with my lovely wife, Emily. I also love to travel and have had the opportunity to visit some very cool places! Outside of that, I enjoy basketball and soccer and love keeping tabs on my favourite teams, Manchester United and the Phoenix Suns.
My favourite Bible verse is Galatians 1:10: “For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ.” It’s a stark reminder of whom I ultimately serve.
It has been a blessing to move here and meet so many of you. My classroom door is always open!
